Those who think they have budget for Business Continuity Planning will sooner or later have to find considerable time and money for an unplanned disaster."
Abe Abrahami, BCP Practitioner, H2o's Head of Compliance & Change Management Services
BCP is part one of planning for an emergency and being prepared to deal with it in advance, for example, fire, flood, terrorist attack, catastrophic failure of IT systems and/or building facilities etc.
DR is part two, and it involves recovering from a serious incident and salvage whatever possible, including, if necessary relocating to another office and resuming business operations from there.
The two go hand in hand like a horse and carriage, and one cannot have one without the other.
International compliance mandates require compliance with ISO 17799 / ISO 27001 / other relevant standards, including current and working BCP and DR schemes in place, which are tested at least once if not twice a year.
